titled “The Patenting Process: Stages for Filing a Patent Application” INSTP Holds 3-day Training Course

The Inter-Islamic Network on Science and Technology Parks (INSTP) based in Guilan Science and Technology Park (GSTP) organized a 3-day online training course titled “The Patenting Process: Stages for Filing a Patent Application”, in cooperation with the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technology Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMSTECH).

This course began on November 1st, 2021 for three days, and was attended by technologists, researchers, university professors and students, as well as young entrepreneurs from OIC states including Iran, Pakistan, Nigeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Palestine.

The opening ceremony included a speech delivered by COMSTECH Coordinator General, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary. H.E. welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of COMSTECH Networks as well as INSTP as a bridge and linkage between technology developers and users, which a lot of OIC States lack. He shed light on the high potential of STPs in Iran, referring to his visit to Iran in the previous month and his viewing of Pardis STP in Tehran. H.E. appreciated the new dynamic leadership of INSTP that has taken INSTP activities to the next level. He then stressed the importance of such courses, stating that patenting is the first step for commercialization and that COSTECH would always support science diplomacy initiatives between OIC States.


The sessions included many professional speakers including:

  • Ms. Fateme Jahanpeyma: “An engaging introduction to Copyright, Patents, Designs and Trademarks”
  • Eng. Mitra Aminlou: “IP as a business development tool; Importance of IP management for SMEs”
  • Mr. Fredy Sánchez Merino: “Types of patent and technology related agreements; the areas of intellectual property that covered by different agreements”
  • Dr. Bryan Khan: “What is patent? Macro and Micro Economic Impact of the Patent System”
  • Dr. Mehrdad Khanlarkhani: “Patent application process; the International Patent System and Regional Patent Protection Mechanisms”
  • Ms. Leila Zarei: “Using patent information; the foundations of patent documentation, patent search strategies, and patent analysis for businesses”


The final day of the course was concluded with a speech delivered by INSTP Secretary General Dr. Basti, who thanked the participants in the training course, hoped they achieved maximum benefit from the sessions, and wished them good luck on the test.

The course was tailored to meet the need of technologists and innovators in OIC States that still suffer a lack of understanding of patent laws and processes.
